HARNESSING TECHNOLOGY TO CREATE JOBS AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE

Since the beginning of his term in 2002, Borough President Adolfo Carrion,
Jr. has funded nearly $6 million towards the advancement of technology
in the Bronx. Carrion understands that technology has the potential to
create new high-wage jobs, make the Bronx more competitive, and improve
the quality of life for Bronx residents.
However, to achieve this potential, Carrion believes in promoting innovation
and extending technology from elementary schools to colleges and hospitals
to cultural institutions. Known for his commitment to boosting economic
growth and prosperity in the Bronx, Carrion has provided children with
exposure to cutting edge technology and prepared them with the knowledge
and tools to compete and succeed in the 21st century. As a result, our
future will be a globally aware workforce with the ability to excel in
high-wage jobs, thereby expanding the Bronx economy and markets. Not only
is Carrion thinking ahead for the future, he is also improving the quality
of life of Bronx families at present. By taking advantage of the mass
benefits of technology in healthcare, he is providing each Bronx resident
with faster treatment and more adequate healthcare.
In specific, Carrion’s technology funding encompasses these areas:
- Education: Provided computer labs, web resource libraries, and media
equipment to local elementary and high schools such as the Grace H.
Dodge High School, John F. Kennedy High School, and Teaching Matters,
Inc.
- Higher Education: Provided computer and science lab equipment for
Hostos Community College, Bronx Community College, Lehman College,
and Mercy College.
- Health: Provided equipment for bone densitometry, mammography, and
nuclear medicine, wireless communications system, and computer workstations
for Lincoln Hospital Center, Family Health Center, and Bronx Lebanon
Hospital.
- Cultural: Provided scientific research equipment for the Bronx Zoo.
Carrion is working to continue bolstering technology and ensuring the
creation of jobs, industry growth in our economy, sufficient healthcare,
and a better quality of life in the Bronx. |
